Material melted in combustion chamber

$

Dear All
I am modelling a combustion Chamber, which contains an inflow and outlow.
This means the material enters in solid phase, it warms up and leaves the chamber in liquid phase. I need to have a specified material rate.
But I am not sure which physics are suitable for my case??
I mean for definig the material flow which enters and leaves the chamber in different phases, which physic is suitable??

Any suggestion is highly appreciated.

Scattered field problems with oblique incident plane waves

Hi

I need to simulate a square array of nanoparticles placed on top of a substrate and illuminated by a non normally impinging plane wave. The problem should be solved in a straightforward way in comsol 4.1 using the scattered field formulation. One just has to implement the Fresnel formula for reflection and refraction in order to specify the proper background field in absence of particle. All seems to work without the particle for any angle of incidence (If I check the scattered field this is correctly 0 everywhere). However if I now put in the particle I find out that the scattered field is correctly absorbed by the PML only in case of normal incidence.. Otherways I always find Fabry-Perot resonances within the air domain that indicate that the PMLs do not correcty absorb the scattered field.

Comsol support answered me in this way:
"The problem with the scattered field formulation is that it only works for
cases where the scatterer is entirely enclosed within a homogeneous medium.
It cannot directly be used to model situations where you have a an
interface between two infinite half spaces with different material
properties. Further, tuning a PML so that it will absorb a wide range of
angles of incidence well is not trivial so you need anyway to know
precisely what diffraction orders you excite."

Did anyone face this problem? Does anyone have suggestions?
The last comsol bug fix (march 2011) suggested to use ports and full field formulation instead of the scattered field formulation. Following the "plasmonic wire grating" example, one should define a port in order to correctly absorb each diffracted wave. However if this technique works fine in case of 2d models, it is to be noted that in case of 3d models one has to define a huge number of ports. Morever for each port one should specify the correct polarization for each diffracted wave and this is not always simple to know a priori (especially in case of grating placed on a substrate)..
Summarizing, is there a simple way to simulate square arrays of particles placed on a substrate with non normal illumination (in comsol 4.1)?

Any suggestions will be highly appreciated
Thanks

I need to find all S-parameters of a Planar inductor.

I have attached .mph file, also an image showing which are the ports to be defined.

Please show me correct way of defining the ports (if possible please show me an image).

How to plot the electric field of circular polarized light?

Hello

I simulate a meta-surface model when a circular polarized light is normal incident, the polarization state of transmitted light is circular polarized too, and how can I plot the transmitted electric field of circular polarized and light? Could the "expression" in the "plot" be written as "ewfd.Ex+i*ewfd.Ey"?

it could be explained intuitively in attach file.

Override and Contribution (boundaries) - Solid Mechanics

Hi! I just started my first project on COMSOL! pretty excited!
I have a problem, that I can't seem to solve.

With Solid mechanics physics, I can't make the default Free 1 with an added boundary mass to contribute in the same boundary. It puts the mass to override by default with no option on changing it.

The only solution I can think of is to add a Free 2 boundary, which will overrite the default Free 1 with a All boundaries selection, and then contribute with the added mass.

So my question is: is it impossible to do it with the default Free 1?

Hi!

Does anyone know how to define background filed ( in Ewfd, solve for scattered field) as an interpolated function from Comsol?

Hi everyone,

I`m modelling anisotropic medium and birefrigence in it.
Can someone help me with periodic conditions on the sides of my cell? I used floquet periodic conditions, but since I have 2 waves(normal and extraordinary) I don`t know, how to define k-vector

Thanks everyone!

Can any one tell me why the boundaries shown in the attached image are not getting selected in emw physics

I have also attached the .mph file.

Study1 is sweep of the wavelength and the consequence is used in Study 2, but how to get the curves of Study 2 which is sweep the wavelength of Study 1?

Hello all !
I'm puzzled that how to calculate the EQE of the solar cell , I used the light(rf module) to calculate the G (sweep of the wavelength) and electrostatics1 to calculate the phi0; two transport of diluted species to calculate the nc & pc; electrostatics 2 to calculate the phi. I want to get the EQE with the function of wavelength, and the J-V profile, but don't know how to set the whole module, Study1 is sweep of the wavelength and the consequence is used in Study 2, but how to get the curves of Study 2 which is sweep the wavelength of Study? Could you help me to check and modification my .mph file?and Thank you very much!

How can I find the fundamental mode of PCF (photonic crystal fiber)?

Hi, I'm facing a problem in finding the fundamental mode of PCF (photonic crystal fiber). For step index fibers, the fundamental mode can be easily found by setting "search for modes around" higher than the refractive index of the core. But, for PCFs, this technique doesn't work. How can I find the fundamental mode of PCF?

Hi, everyone
When I am trying to plot a function, and an error is occurred : Failure loading MATLAB libraries. This model requires that MATLAB is available. - File: csmatlab.dll - Function: Sigma_G.

I am new to comsol with matbal, and how can I solver the problem?

What kind of boundary condition should be applied to the edge of PML region?

Hi, I'm trying to calculate confinement loss of optical fibers. What kind of boundary condition should be applied to the edge of PML region (the red line in the figure attached)?

No "Solution store" in my model.

There is a "Solution store" in the case library. But when I created a model step by step just like the case library said, under "Study 1" there was only "Solution 1".
From the case library's microwave oven model, it can be seen that "Solution store" has equal status as "Solution 1". However when I created a model step by step,in the Study part there was no "Solution store 1" .
I am very confused about this problem. If anyone know, please connect me please. E-mail:sunyu87926@126.com.
Thanks a lot.

Mach-Zehnder; S parameters.

Use comsol 5.0. I'm modeling a Mach-Zehnder, but I have some questions:
1 – S parameters the values are wrong. I need to go in with a complex signal (R + jX). How should I do?
2 – the result that comes out (S parameters S41) is the sine form. This sign refers to only the value of the equation E1 (x) – envelope?

I am doing the wireless power transfer model using the models.rf.uhf_wireless_power_transfer.pdf, I am facing the problem in executing the steps given in the manual. I have attached the screen shot of the problem where I have facing problem(Till green color mark I have executed, I am facing problem in red colored mark ) .
The field distribution of the PML domains is not of interest, how to exclude them from the
plot?
Selection (On the Results toolbar, click Selection) this icon is not enable.
Could you please suggest to proceed further.

I want to implement chiral media (bi-anisotropic media) by Comsol..

$

HI everyone !

I have a hard time to implement chiral media by using RF module...
I want to fallow the way that explained in OEX paper " Eigen oscillations of a chiral sphere and their influence on radiation of chiral molecules"

It tells me that
"""
As a result, one needs to perform following modification to work with chiral objects in
COMSOL:
1. Replace the wave equation for usual media by that for chiral media Eq. (3).
2. Redefine all parameters of interest through E. For example, one can use the following equation for a magnetic field vector:
"""

So I have tried to find how to modify the wave equation and parameters but i couldn't ...
plz Help and teach me the way to implement chiral(bi-anisotropic) media.
